Well I would do suspension and brakes and then work on ditching the automatic if you are interested in doing engine work. If you have cash look into a complete motor and transmission swap to replace that automatic trans.

Depends on which motor combination you choose and if you do the work yourself or have a shop do it. Auto to manual swaps can get pricey depending on what motor you are swapping. You could even just do the auto to manual swap and keep your stock motor. However, the dx motor does not respond well to mods because it uses dual point fuel injection....2 injectors for 4 cylinders. There is a swap called the MPFI swap which upgrades the motor to run 4 fuel injectors. It is a good cheap mod that will allow you to take advantage of other mods more effectively.

If it sounds too dangerous then don't do a motor swap. Because if you want to do a swap most of the motors run mpfi and you are going to have to convert the wiring. If you want to modify a dx this is really the only way to get any reliable increase in power unless you swap over another sohc motor and still run it with dpfi.

MPFI is not hard to do at all. I am waiting on my ecu so I can do the swap. The hardest part is timing your distributer. There were instructions posted earlier this month about how to do it. I have a full EX engine wiring harness that I am going to use instead of rewiring my old harness.
