Graphics problem

My system:
Windows XP Pro SP2
Intel P4 2.99 Ghz
1.5 GB ram
ATI Radeon X1650 Pro 512Mb
Antec 430w PSU
ASrock Mobo

When Im playing a game after a short time, 1-2 min, Something in the computer starts making a beeping sound. The sound is simultaneous with a graphic slowdown that happens for a split second at a time, but also in rapid sucession. I have tons of cooling on the card, the ATI CCC shows the card is at about 45C max. Also when I try to use the ATI Overdrive, the screen flickers if I raise the processor clock speed at all.

Did you try updating drivers?

Re: Graphics problem

113f is pretty cool for a gfx card, most idle at that.. Are you SURE thats the highest the temp has gone? Try motherboard monitor or something else. just to make sure it's not overheating.

Re: Graphics problem

Definately try some different versions of drivers/firmware.

If you don't have any joy, open the side of the case and stick a desk fan blowing in.

Either way you should have your answer.

Re: Graphics problem

Well I updated the driver but that didn't help. Then I cleaned the little dust that was in the computer out and at the same time threw in a 256mb stick I had laying around. After that the problem went away. So Im guessing there was a conflict with the ram. Probably because its mismatched I guess. Thanks for the help.

Re: Graphics problem

What exactly did you do with the RAM? Take all RAM out and put in a 256 spare chip you had lying around?

I think it's definately worth investigating the RAM further - do some testing on it, and read the motherboard manual to learn which slots matching RAM should be in - you might have had it in the wrong slots\.

Re: Graphics problem

Thats what it was. I just had the ram in the wrong slots. Wouldnt have happened if I had just followed the manual in the first place and matched it all up with the same speeds. HT only works with identical ram, and mine is a combination of 3200/2700 so it was probably getting hung up.
