problems with T& C 2003 dying

My 2003 T & C has been dying at slow speeds or when full stop for several weeks. It is intermittent- doesn't do it everyday or jsut when cold or hot. It has done this about 10 times in last 10 days. Take it to auto shop and they can't get it to "act up" no codes register on the computer and no lights come on dash. Anyone have any ideas.

Re: problems with T& C 2003 dying

Many possibilities. Especially tough to say without a code. Here's a few ideas in no particular order:

> Take a look at the Idle Air Control valve/motor in the throttle body. This valve controls idle speed in multiple modes. Make sure the connection is tight and the contacts are clean. Consider cleaning it and testing it. While there clean the throttle body.
> The EGR system is infamous for causing idle/stall issues. Check it's operation and clean/lube the valve stem and inspect for loose connections, clogged vacuum lines, etc.
> Inspect the crank and camshaft position sensors and connections. These sensors help determine engine timing and are known to cause stalling issues. They are easy to change and cost $20-$30 each.
> Inspect the coil and spark plug connections. Make sure they are tight. Seal them with dielectric grease especially if you frequently drive in wet conditions.

All of these components are supposed to generate an error code when they fail. Many times they don't. Does it start up again right away? If not check to make sure the engine is getting spark and fuel.
