i want to change my rear end real soon...i have a 94 caprice with a 5.7L 350 and the rear end is a 7.5 inch with 2.73s....im thinking about switching to the 8.5 rear but i cannot decide what gears i want to put in... at the most i will go with 3.42s but what kind of rpms will i be looking at on the highway cruisin at 80 or so....lowest i would go is 3.08s....is there any gears i can put in either rear end between 3.08 and 3.42..should i definetly get an 8.5 inch rear or can the 7.5 handle 3.42s?? any help or suggestions are appreciated

Re: rear end
An 8.5" 3.08 w/rear disc brakes out of a '94-'96 9C1 is a bolt-in replacement, provided you get the driveshaft that goes with the donor car.
My '88 is running a '94 9C1 rear axle set. Works grrreeeeaaaaatttt!

Re: rear end
Wouldn't a 94 already have an 8.5" rear? Especially if he has a LT1? And he'd should have 3.08s too with an LT1.
How have you verified your 7.5" and 2.73s?

CD, the civilian LT1 cars typically come with 2.93 gears, but I do think you're right in that it should be an 8.5".
