Getting a door open
I'm trying to get the drivers side front door open on a 1998 Explorer Limited. I think the lock and/or the door linkage is damaged. How do I get the door open?

Re: Getting a door open
The way least likely to damage something is probably to remove the door panel from inside the vehicle, carefully peel back the vapor barrier, then manipulate the linkage from inside the door.
I assume you've tried unlocking with the power locks and working both the inside and outside door handles. Also, try unlocking the door from the outside with the key since that uses a different lock linkage than the power solenoid. -Rod |

Re: Getting a door open
If the door lock button is stuck down, then that will also cause the door not to open. This is caused by a stuck actuator. Try using pliers or something on the lock button while pressing the unlock switch.

Re: Getting a door open
My '96 Exploder started the same thing tonight. Can't get the door open. I tried the key, the power lock switch, the keyless entry, and of course, the inside door handle. (Drivers door only, the rest work fine)
Once I realized that I was not in an episode of "The Dukes of Hazzard", I began to wonder how in the world was I going to fix it. |
