Question Radio problem in PT Cruiser

I have an 02 Cruiser with the factory radio receiver with CD player and a 10 disc CD add-on (Mopar, dealer installed). My radio has been blacking out. It appears that it is no longer getting power but the fuse is good. I removed the radio looking for an additional fuse or a reset button but found none. In the process I unplugged the two cables from the rear and then plugged them back in. When I turned the ignition on the radio worked. However, the same situation occured when I shut off the ignition without first turning off the radio. Any ideas??

Re: Radio problem in PT Cruiser

This is just a guess.
There are two fuses for your radio. One is clearly marked in your owners manual "radio" - that one is the power that turns on and off with your ign key. If your radio operates that one is ok. The other fuse is the memory fuse that has power all the time. It is not labeled for the radio, it will be a circuit that has power all the time like a cigarette lighter, power outlet, or even interior light. If you have kids check for coins in the cig lighter outlet.

If both fuses are good the try the following:
re: the two cables plugged into the rear of the radio
One cable is for your cd changer the other is your antenna. Try unplugging the cable for the cd changer for a couple of days to see if it cures your problem. If it does then the problem is with your changer.
There is possibly a reset button on your cd changer. If your changer has one it will be a very small hole next to the eject button of your changer. Use a pen or a paper clip to reset it.
If all the above fail then the problem is in your radio.

Re: Radio problem in PT Cruiser

Hello,

This sounds silly, but my radio use to black out but keep working. My key in the ignition would slide out a quarter inch. Just enough to effect the radio to blacking out. I just make sure the key is always in, and there you go.

Good Luck

Allen
