Unhappy 96 Teg keeps shutting down, please help!

Hi, my 96 Acura Integra, shuts down after it has been running......originally we thought it was the alarm/immobilizer thinking we were trying to steal it (we don't have the remote for the alarm), we've since switched the alarm off......the Acura dealerships says the alarm is not the problem, they think its an electrical problem, probably with the starter/switch, but it could be numouress of things......mechanically the car runs fine, but it keeps shutting off....I would like to avoid going to a dealership to fix my car (they charge $110.00/hour)......anybody knows what it could be?

Thanks.

It could be lots of things when it shuts down does it start again or do you have to wait awhile, if it doesnt start check for spark at one of the spark plug wires and see if the fuel pump comes on when you first crank it. let us know what happens then . good luck EZFrank

Cool Re: 96 Teg keeps shutting down, please help!

save ur time and take the distributor off and to autozone u go and have them check the icm ignition control module its responsible for spark bad icm = no spark and if when they find out its no good my icm costs 90$ and its hard as hell to put in because its in the distributor and if you dont rebuild the distributor right then u will open a can of worms. so when they find out the icm is bad then you want to buy new distributor aka rebuilt plus you get lifetime warranty. the reason it keeps shutting off is because the icm is like a resistor and after a while the resistor gets old and when it gets hot it stops working and wil not work until it cools down hence your problem. trust me i have a 93 accord and all the symptoms you have i had it pissed me off so much til i fixed it when u get new distributor you will have to have the timing set goodluck and let me know what happened
