Unhappy 1995 1500 305v8 Help Please!

HELP! I just purchased a 1995 Chevy 1500 with a 305v8 and a 5speed transmisson. When I start the truck the idle jumps up and down like the engine is surging. When I drive the truck it has no power at all in 2nd gear. When I try and speed up the motor seems to die down or bog out and has no power. The motor and truck runs great on the highway at highway speeds. It has gotten worse in the last 1000 miles I have drivin it. I have put new plugs, wires, and distribtor cap on in the last week. This morning the truck could hardly make it up a small hill in any gear but 1st with out bogging out. I need help! Please help!

Check the timing

With the dist. hold down tightened, try to rotate the distributor. If the hold down has flattened out from too many R&Rs, the dist. can vibrate around and change the timing.

Have you changed out the fuel filters?

Check the operation of the IAC solenoid - idle air control - it's on the TBI unit and if this fails, can lead to the issue you are experiencing.
