Shift Points
I have an LS, and would like to get a little more bang out of it. The cheapest way to do this I beleive would be to change the shift-points. It's an automatic, so I'd need to get under the hood for this. So here are my questions:
1) can I do this on my own? if not, where do I need to go 2) where is the connection to the computer, what do you need to connect to it? jacks, programs etc. 3) what should I change the points to? 4) this is just stupid but: are SS engine parts able to be fitted to the LS? if you can answere these, particularly the first and third, I would be forever indebted to you. |

Re: Shift Points
If that's the route you want to go, "B&M Shift Plus" is one type of controller that can be spliced into the harness of your 4T45E. As far as I know, you locate two wires out of the trans harness loom and tap two B&M wires to them with TapCons. No need to even cut/splice wires. You route the hand-held controller part into the cabin so you can adjust on the fly. You could probably have a custom tuned PCM done as well and I'm sure there are more 'electronic manipulators' for the 4T40E/4T45E. Dropping the valve body and doing a mechanical shift kit may be possible too, but I don't know why you'd want to on a stock 2.2L Cobalt.

Re: Shift Points
no there is not way to adjust the shiftpoints on your car right now. Unfortunately the only company that has tunning software for the cobalts, currently does not support the 2.2L engine. I HIGHLY advise against using a B&M shiftplus, its harmful to the trans and does nothing more than make your transmission slam into gear. You cant tune anything with it or do anything to the trans. All it will do is increase the line pressure and cause the trans to shift much harder. Ive used one before and had bad results, i highly do not recommend it.

Also i dont recomend it because the settings are 50% and 100%. Both of which are way more line pressure than what is needed. As well as a B&M shiftplus wont make your car faster, cause like i said it doesnt improve shift times on a stock car. |

Re: Shift Points
Good points Jayson.
Line pressure and shift points are two separate variables. Neither of which I would mess with (much) on a stock engine.Joel

Re: Shift Points
what about the SS parts? Is there any way to get a little more kick out of this car? Believe me, I like the car, but I'm wishing I could have afforded payments on something racier. Now I'm stuck trying to squeeze extra power of a 2.2

Re: Shift Points
If you want controll shift points the best way is get a 5sp. If you want more power/preformance go to CobaltSS.net and find the 2.2 forum

Re: Shift Points
The SS 2.4 and SS 2.0 both have tunning software that allows you to completly tune everything about the car. From spark advance, af ratio, shift points, shift time, rev limiter, governor, anything GM can do, you can do.
If you want more performance just buy a SS supercharged and dont go automatic if you want to have fun. |
