CD changer issue

My CD changer on my 2000 LS (in the glove box) won't open, the radio screen says "Eject" when I press eject button on it, as well as I can hear the mechanism within the changer making noise...but nothing... ..stays shut.
Just bought it..love every aspect of the car..except this issue. Please help!

Re: CD changer issue

Ok, another question...how do I even know/find out what CD changer it is (make/model)? The enclosed car owner's guide doesn't tell. Thx.

Re: CD changer issue

You'll probably need to remove the changer from the glovebox and open it up to both attempt to fix it or to determine the manufacturer. I'm not sure if your 2000 model year would be the Alpine system or the Sony system. Ford used Clarion for some time too, but I think that was longer ago.

There have been similar complaints trying to eject the CD changer cartridge posted on the Mercury Mountaineer and Ford Explorer forums with some solutions posted. You may want to search those forums for details.

Re: CD changer issue

Thx!
Yes, it is Clarion...and I will most definitely need a new one
Does it need to be the same one (probably hard to get nowadays) or can I get a newer one installed? I mean will there be issues w/ cables/connectors/button functionss if I do?
Thx again.

Re: CD changer issue

I'm not sure on compatibility issues with newer changers. I suspect though that the pinout and/or data interface may not be compatible between Clarion, Sony, and Alpine though. Usually the changers will be common between multiple car lines for a particular model year, you may be able to look at similar year Fords, Lincolns, and Mercurys. At least by 2002, most of the Fords had gone to the in-dash CD changer as part of the head unit rather than the remotely located changer.

If you find one with the same Ford part number, you'll be in business. Pay attention though to the mounting orientation. If you pick up one that was standing, you'll need to rotate the shock mounting which is usually pretty easy to do. If it's not simple, then it should have a different part number.
