Ok, i went pretty quick on the selecting of the original image, because i was mainly trying to play with the colors, cuz i want it red, but it just got out of hand, lol.

BUT im askin if anyone knows how to make it more dull.. i tried playing around with different things, but i couldnt make it duller without making it dark, like maroon.
Its just too chrome-like for me at this point.
any suggestions would b great!

I'd like you to work on some details, and then come back with an update:

First of all; is this picture compressed in any way? You can see that line between the chrome underneath the painted side of the body have taken som beating, and looks bad in you original pic.

As for the backdrop, you'll need some filtering on the pavement and to reduce the line between the pavement and backdrop. Otherwise, i like the idea.
You seem to have selected the body too quickly and left out rough parts of the body making the heavily saturated color look cartoon-ish. Redo that, and leave out the rear lights.

Ok, i've tried it once myself, using your backdrop:



Important thing is to make the foreground go with the background, i.e. the pavement etc. I've simply used warming filters and sponged it in saturate mode. Then all the chrome, and some highlights have to get with the backdrop as well, and with this particular orange-ish one the warming filters go well. Also, don't be afraid to level the shit out of the sky to an almost unreal level, nobody cares anyways, unless you want it to look very real that is.

When you color the body from black to color, you need to split the body sometimes, since the highlighting doesn't look good in color, and the shadows looks wierd. Don't use too much colour on the shadows, burn it alittle, and desaturate it. Then dodge the highlights.

You get the picture.

Ok,
I messed with it a bit actually before i got an email that someone finally replied. Then i messed with it a little more.
I saw what you meant about the backdrop. I added some shadow to it, which may not be appropriate, but sometimes it could look like the concrete is like a step, with a top to it. and the shadow i put is the top.. idk.
but yeah i fixed the selection thing a while back and kinda fixed the color since it was like a chrome red.

I also know what you mean about the shadows on the car.. it looks like shit because its like dark red/black.. too dark.
Ill experiment with it another time... gotta get my college stuff done since i just started yesterday!!

Ok, you seem to have a problem with the way that you are colouring your car, you need to get this right first before we talk about how the background contrasts aswell.

To colour the car i did a quick version for you, select the body and C+P it to a new layer.
Fill the body shape with white and change the blending mode to soft light.
now duplicate this layer (ctrl + J) and paint it red.

Heres the effect i got:

I just thought of that technique ON THE SPOT from other techniques from other stuff, ive never colorised a black car before, im happy with that lol.

thanks, i got the idea from chroming black, which is the same but without the red layer
