2002 Trailblazer Info

Im looking at purchasing a 2002 LTZ Trailblazer.
it has around 90,000 k on it already.
It would be replacing a extremely reliable 1999 LS Blazer with over 200,000 k on it (and runs like mint I might add)

Can you guys give me some info as to problem areas I should look at before purchasing..and just some general information on this model.

Thanks in advance.

Your best bet is to take it to a good repair shop and have them look it over good.
If you can contact the first owner check maintenance records?
Good Luck.

Thumbs up Re: 2002 Trailblazer Info

Have you already made the deal? If not, the things to take into consideration on the '02 LTZ are water pump (mine went out at 60k miles) the dreaded piston-slap, and some TB's have issues with spontaneous shut-downs and side-view mirror problems. Read this board for info on the piston slap (recall item?) and the shut-down issues.

My '02 LTZ has 80k miles on it and the only major issues I've had were the water pump, and the mirror problems. I also had to change the ambient air sensor twice. All-in-all, I love this truck, and would recommend it to anyone.

Good luck.

2002 being the first run model year for the Trailblazer had a few extra recalls, including the windshield wiper motor assembly, rear tail light assemblies, 4wd switch, ignition key, and certain seat belt recalls. Recalls are 100% free fix from any GM dealership for the lifetime of the car, since they're safety issues. If you buy the truck, I recommend you take it to a dealership and have them run a recall check on it (and also you can check for malfunctioning parts described above) and if they find anything related to recalls or GM TSB (technical Service Bulletins) have them fix it for free.

I also agree with the other poster here, have your mechanic take a look at it to make sure that he thinks it's in good shape. Your mechanic can go over the whole truck and check all the fluids (including the 4WD system if this LTZ is so equipped) to let you know what condition the truck is in and if the previous owner performed the required maintenance, or instead beat the $h1t out of it (and then you'd pass on this deal and find another truck!!)

I'll add to that some optional checks, perhaps consider a carfax report, to tell you if it's ever had major body damage or was in an accident, etc, but basically, go with your instinct after that... if you feel it's a good (affordable) deal and you like how the truck drives, handles, feels, and has the features that you're looking for in a truck, then GO FOR IT!!
