Steering Failure... dire

Ok, so I was driving at abour 15mph, making a right turn, when all of a sudden the steering wheel stopped controlling the wheels. The steering wheel itself can be spun freely around and around, but the wheels do not move. The linkage is completely intact, and there was no fluid leakage. When feeling the boot that rests over where the steering column shaft connects with whatever it connects to past the firewall, no movement can be felt.

I know there was a recall for the rack and pinion assembly of this vehicle, but the consequences of that failure do not match what happened with me. Does anyone have ANY idea as to what may be going on here?

Welcome to AF. The joint from the column shaft to the stub shaft is broken? keep digging till you find the disconnect.
