first time amp buying help

I'm completely new to this but I have 2 12" pioneer subs. I went to best buy to see what kind of amp I would need and how much it would cost to install everything. Well it turned out to be too much so I want to buy it online and have a friend do the installation. I dont know what kind of amp to buy or how many watts it should have, so any help I could get would be appreciated. The guy at best buy tried to sell me a 600watt amp, is that enough? and also do I need a 2 or 4 channel amp? Thanks

Re: first time amp buying help

I would get a 2 channel amp that could put out around 250 watts from each channel (I wouldn't put a lot of power into pioneer subs, but that's me). We're gonna need to know which model pioneer sub and other details to be sure though (SVC, DVC, recommended rms, etc). As for brands, look at the sticky "start of newbie/info thread" on top to see what most recommend/don't recommend. I think Kenwood sucks in every way though.

Re: first time amp buying help

ok thanks your responce was helpful. I agree with not putting too much power into these subs bc ive heard they arent that great but im not looking for an amazing system, just something a little better than what i have now. I appreciate it and ill look at the thread you mentioned.
