Question 1997 Isuzu Rodeo Lost acceleration HELP!

Okay I am female, and completly auto repair deficient. I hope that someone else out there has had the same problem and can point me in the right direction. I do not want to go to the repair shop and get ripped off because I don't have an inclination as to what is wrong. So here is my story.

1997 Isuzu Rodeo V6 roughtly 150k Vehicle seamed to be running just fine, no noises, or pinging or anything. I was driving down the highway at 70 mph and suddenly lost acceleration, the Rodeo started to decelerate so I put my foot to the pedal and pushed down, the vehicle did rev up, but nothing as far as acceleration. I tried shifting gears, and still nothing. Around 20 mph the engine decided to die. Waited about 5 min and it finally started again, made it 5 miles to my destination and everything seamed okay. The check engine light came on, but all other gages read normal, it wasn't running hot, and the oil pressure is fine. Any clues why it would do this. I have read about the ECU going out, as it really did feel like there was just no transmission involved, I've also seen there were reports of the fuel system. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First go to an auto parts store and get the codes read. That is always the first place to start. Then post them here, and hopefully someone will be able to help you. Andie

It's an auto, no odd gas. I use the same station every time. I forgot to mention that when this was happening I put my foot on the gas pedal and pushed down, and the RPM's didn't even register, it didn't rev up. It's worked just fine since, but I'll take it to the auto store and see if they can read the codes. Thanks for that tip

Sounds like it could be a fuel pump going........My 95 Dodge Ram did the same thing going acorss country. Just died, waited ten minutes sarted up no problem. Went to the next big city had it diagnosed and replaced....cruised to NOrth Craolina at 80 no problems.
