1999 Denali, R&R Ignition Switch, Passlock problem

1999 Yukon Denali.
I had the SUV in storage and the battery went dead. After replacing the battery the passlock has locked out the fuel (starts, runs for 1 second and shuts down). I've tried the reset (Turn key to run, wait for 10 - 30 minutes, turn key to off, then try to start) many times.

One odd thing, when I turn my key to run, my security light on the console comes on and then in three seconds goes off. I think that is what it is suposed to do.?

So, I've decided to replace the Ingnition switch and Halls effect sensor. Can anyone tell me the proceedure for removal and replacement?

Thanks, Manuel

Welcome to AF. I'd do a complete relearn first, you should do what you did 3x in succession first. The engine usually will not crank at all if the security system was at fault. Any alarm/theft deterrent other system on the car possibly? Check this link see if it applies to your truck. http://www.motorage.com/motorage/dat...09/article.pdf

Thanks maxwedge,
There is no after market anything on this truck.

I had a passlock problem when I first bought this truck in 2001. The fix at that time was to solder the wire connections together. It did the same thing then as it is doing now. Cranks over, starts, then cuts the fuel after about one second. The soldering did the fix, and I never had another problem till now. So I'm fairly certain that it is the passlock system.

I tried a complete relearn as you discribed, three to four times. with the same outcome. It starts, runs for one second and dies.

I also did look at your link on passkey and understand what they are saying. However mine is passlock and I don't believe there is any resistor or diode in my key and my starter does not shut down, only the fuel cuts off. Also, I have no security light issue. When I turn on the ignition it flashed for 3 seconds and goes off.

I'm baffled how the thing works, but the bad part is so are the service departments. I'm sure it's going to boil down to replace anything and everything! So I have a little time and not a bunch of money, and would like to replace the parts myself if possible.

Thanks, Manuel
