Re: leaky liftgate

i sealed mine with sikoflex used this as its black kinda blends in and i didnt need to pop it off just sealed along the edge also the seams inside just down behind the rear lights were seaping in water on mine so sikoflexed them as well now no more water leaks, a wee trick get a jug or something fill it with water pull off all the plastic trim in the boot and then lift the carpet up pour water over the back window then get in and watch for water getting in thats what i did and thats how i noticed the water getting in through the seam it sounds a bit of a pain to do but it will save you money hope this helps.

It's people like you who give this car and others a bad name and only make more work for future owners. Don't ghetto rig your car, go to any Toyota dealership and buy new window hatch trim to replace your most likely cracked and dryrotted trim, scrape out any cracked or brittle window sealant and replace. Don't forget the new taillight gaskets while your there, these parts aren't expensive and are basic maintanence after 20+ years of abuse.
