How to know if my 1999 mercury cougar comes with keyless remote

I am trying to install a remote for the doors but i dont seem to know how or if my car is equipped with this feature i am confused because my car comes with everything power.Can anybody please help me????

Hey i also have a 99 cougar and mine has a remote with it but im not completely sure if im right because im not very smart when it comes to cars (i ask my stepdad all car ?s, hes a mechanic) but my GUESS is that if your car has everything power than it should be compatible with a remote because mine is all power as well...dunno if that helped but oh well..

You will have to go to a dealer to get a new remote as these things need to be programed to the car. You will also need to find out what number you need but once you have the new remote you can buy a backup remote off ebay cheap and you can program that one yourself. I would say bring it in and they should have you hooked up for cheaper then the cost of a aftermarket one and the labor to install it

You do NOT need a dealer to program the Cougar remotes. You just need the correct remote (FCC: CWTWB1U322) and these are the instructions to use:

Turn your key from OFF to RUN (2nd position) 4 times in six seconds and turn the key back to OFF.

Your alarm light should stay fully lit instead of flashing like normal. While it's fully lit, press any key on the remote. The alarm light will flash indicating the remote was accepted.

At this point, turn your key to the ON position (1st) and then RUN (2nd) and the alarm light will turn off, indicated the remote is programmed. Take the key out and test the remote.

thanks man,i figured out how to do it but mine worked differently,it was programmed but i never got none of those signs from my cougar but it could have just been my car,but anyways,it works now so that 20$ for the remote was a good deal when everyone was tellin me to go to a dealer and it'll cost 5x what i payed.

you should be able to! if you have a local mechanic shop just have them take a look to see if you have it built in because maybe you bought it and the previouse owners lost them and just didn't want to tell you !
