98 4.3L completely dead, then back, then dead
The truck is a 98 Jimmy, 4.3L with 182K. It has been running great and then suddenly yesterday morning it was completely dead to the world. No radio, door chimes, nothing. The key got locked in the ignition as well, in the accessory position. I called a tow truck, went back out to meet him, and the thing was alive again, the radio was on etc and it started right up.
It ran fine all night, and then did it again today. We went out and it was completely dead. the battery is only 1 year old, and besides, they don't just go dead and come back on their own. It would seem like it is a relay or sensor somewhere. Does anyone have any idea which one it would be? Scott |

How about cleaning and tighening the battery cables first?

Re: 98 4.3L completely dead, then back, then dead
Check the relays that are in the relay/fuse box mounted on the inner left fender.
Fuse and Relay placement chart is located on the inside lid of the fuse box. As previously said, check and clean the battery. I'd also check the wires leading to the control module on the inner right fender and ALL wires leading to the coil module. Had the same problem with my '95, bad wire on the coil. GOOD LUCK. |
