need help fixing my integra

m getting impatient with the guy who did the work on my car to help fix it, so im gonna see if i cant actually figure out whats wrong with it and fix it myself.

The car is a 1992 integra gsr. Just got a used b17 swapped into it by a local shop, only 60,000 on the engine. Car was working good for quite awhile, except the speedometer didn't work. Well the guys replaced the speedo cable so it worked again, but then i started getting a check engine light. They took a look at it tried fixing a few things, and the guy who runs the shop drove it back and forth from home to work for a few days without problems.

I get the car back, and i notice when i open it up the rpm's started jumping kinda wierd, like it was hesitating or misfiring or something. While waiting for the shop to take a look at it, someone suggested it may be bad gas, so i filled up a new tank along with a bottle of the gas cleaner stuff. It seemed like it might have been doing a bit better, so i was gonna drive it around and let that tank work though. Not long after i started this tactic, the car died in the middle of a busy street and i couldn't get it started again.

So now it sits, not starting. It tries to turn over but can't, so the starter isn't bad or anything. What do you guys think it is?

It sounds like your fuel pump may not be working. Give that a look, or have the guys check out if your fuel pressure is ok

Thats all that I can think of right now...

whenever a car doesnt start, the first things to check are fuel and spark. the easiest, of course, is spark, so start with that. also, look at all the plugs to make sure they are not fouled. you can also tell if you are running too rich or too lean, which will help with the fuel problem. even if you are able to get spark, it doesnt mean that you have eliminated the ignition as a problem all together. it may be that the coil is not strong enough to give a high enough voltage to arc across the plug every time it needs to, so make sure thats up to spec. after that, move to fuel pressure, and making sure that the fuel is getting into the cylinder. from there the problem should be found in either one of those and dealt with accordingly. good luck.

places like checker will usually check your ignition system for free so make sure everything is within spec. have them check it out then decide where to go from there.
