ABS\TC Lights

1999 Venture - 107K

Instrument Panel ABS\TC Lights are on. There are no unusual noises anywhere. The in vehicle fuses related to the ABS are good. The rear lighting system including brake lights are good. Yesterday, I checked the hub connections to the front brakes... appear OK. Today I removed the rear brake drums and cleaned the rear brakes and checked all connections - good.

Any further advice other than having a dealership plug in?

Re: ABS\TC Lights

Sounds like the weather proof plug at the back harness to rear tail light 3 up bank has or is shorting. Very typical with these. If you can get away with just cleaning the connections when you uncouple this plug, unless you see a burned (shorted) center, black ground wire in the harness at this plug, you can then smear some dielectric grease on the each of the male-female connections in this plug. If that does not fix it, there is a definite short and needs one or both a new harness, rear light assembly. If you go that route, definitely goop silicone caulking on the plug to prevent this poor design/placement of this plug (in the direct drain path of water, etc in the rear hatch) from happening again. Your cruise will then work again. I am surprised that your TCS dash light isn't also on. For a cheaper fix if you definitely have the short at this plug, I have published the way I did it in a previous post where I strip the wire harness, attach connectors to each pin, cut back about 1/2" and expose the prongs in the tailight plug, slip on the connectors from the harness, make sure it works, then goop the silicone on everything. Remember to label the location to the mating plug that you will connect to on each wire of the harness, before stripping them back. Worked like a charm for 2 yrs now and only about $5 in connectors, silicone. If you need more info, you can email me directly at [email protected]. Either way, let the forum know what worked. Good luck.
