I just bought an old CLASSIC like myself and like me, there are few missing parts....emission system is short some connectors; missing a diverter that probably blew up in former engine problem; new engine doesn't have a warranty probably because it wasn't connected and put back together right.
opcorn: Runs OK, but need to get it smogged and Haynes manual isn't detailed enough to figure what's missing. There is a sensor control box in the back of the engine with 4 emission ducts missing hoses....; the divertor is missing the hose connectors (they obviously melted and fused to the hoses and need metal connectors or new divertor). What's a mother to do? Chilton manuals are expensive; is there another source without driving all around with a defective emission system? Tired of dealing with lemons and defective vehicles.....VTY....crustyodb runaround

Re: 1979 Silverado Missing emission pieces
If your vehicle in more than 25 years old, it shouldn't need to pass emmisions tests. At least not in Texas, I don't think.

California laws apply here for my 1979. 1976 is the oldest that qualifies for emission exemptions.
Found another problem too....disconnected hoses to charcoal filter for emission controls. Need routing that isn't in Haynes but Chilton's not available for my year at local store....would LIKE to know and not wait for a few more days until book is available..... One hose is obviously for air; it's 1/2 inch in diameter. The other hose has two connections and a three prong plug within 6 inches of each other - obviously plugs into 3 places, but can't find where other two are.....

Re: 1979 Silverado Missing emission pieces
the easyest fix is move to a state that does not do emission test. I pulled all that stuff off of my old 85 truck. got better gas milage.

I mean, come on! Installing ALL NEW emission pieces on that truck is going to cost WAY LESS than packing up your stuff and moving - it just doesn't compute.
