94 K1500, Erratic instrument cluster

Hello-

I have a 94 K1500 chevy Ext P/U w/ 5L that has an erratic instrument custer. This morning there was crosstalk between the tachometer and speedometer. Both needles were moving like the tachometer. As noted, this is not a digital cluster. The other gauges (oil, temp, fuel) were reading fine.

BTW, This has happened once in the past about a month ago, but, miraculously fixed itself.

Have you installed a body lift on your truck? If so check your wiring harness, sometimes it can get pulled tight and cause shorts. I've seen it a few times on lifted trucks.

No I have not lifted the truck.

Something interesting happen yesterday though. I was kind of feeling around [and punching and kicking...] to make this thing stop to no avail and then notice that I knocked out this selector switch at the base of the column.

I'm not entirely sure the purpose of this switch but it is a hard white plastic thing with about a 1/4 moon selector inside that switches contacts when you move from park to drive. The truck starts fine without it in place, so I wouldn't think it was the neutral safety switch? Back-ups maybe??

Does the cluster get it's power or ground from this switch? I wouldn't think so, but, ever since the gages have been working just fine???

Note: I had shut the truck off and didn't notice the switch daggling until I got back in.
