97 EX (d16ya) Valve Adjustment Help
Howdy folks,
I would like to adjust the valves on my Civic myself. Don't feel like paying $75 to the shop on something that takes them 20 minutes or less for. I just need to know a few things. How do I do it? If any one can let me know the types of tools needed and how to adjust the valves while making sure the proper gap is maintained, I would be beyond grateful! Thanks, David |

$75??? I would have them do it. By the time you get new seal, feeler gauge, torque wrench and etc, $75 sounds good to me. But if you must

Local Import Shop does it for $68. Getting it done tommorow. I don't want to spend that much time under the hood. Though I love working on cars. I love playing with my son even more.

Re: 97 EX (d16ya) Valve Adjustment Help
Moment of truth comes Sunday. A buddy who does classic restoration is letting me do it at his shop while he works on his '55 Bel Aire. So if I get stuck I'm in good hands. Thank you for the link hxgaser! I've got it printed out and I should be just fine.

Re: 97 EX (d16ya) Valve Adjustment Help
Spent hours Tuesday night. Piston #3, I couldn't get any clearance on the valve nore at TDC. 1&2 looked VERY different from when I first start...got me a little nervous. So yesterday morning I just had the car towed to this local import shop (guys were master techs for Mazda, Toyota, Subi's & Hondas). It took him about 40min (I spent over 2hrs). When I asked him how far off I was he said, "If you hadn't of towed it and started the car, you'd be at the Honda dealer buying a new Honda right now." Folks - have a pro do it! An hour wait and $60 (already had the gasket from advance) and it rides like a new car!
