2004 Tahoe steering wheel Trip/fuel switch replacement

I have a 2004 Tahoe, the lights in the trip/fuel switch burned out. I can get the switch from gmpartsdirect.com for <$15 but can't figure out how to get the switch out of the steering wheel. I can almost pull the switch clear of the steering wheel but can't quite get enough slack it the wires to disconnect it. I think that if I could get the air bag module out of the way I could disconnect it from inside but I can't figure out how to do that either.

Anyone have any experience getting this switch out or even pulling the air bag out? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Unless you are trained in air bag repair it is best to let a repair shop that is work on it.
Just think of them as a loaded shot gun when you go to messing with them.

Hey MT, I respect your opinion however, the DIY spirit lives on.

For the hearty souls who aren't afraid to look death in the face go here for a proceedure to get the air bag off:

I am copying the warning from the above web space just to let everybody know to be careful when working around airbags!

10-4 on the DIY spirit lives on.
But they need to measure there own abilities on things like air bag repair.
And as said they are as dangerous as a loaded shotgun shell.
They can save your life or take it in a split second.
So be careful out there when fooling with them.

Good site you posted.
I see that they also give a big caution and warning on SIR removal.
