is it possible?
is it possible to have a digital boost controller, where you can having it running no boost?

well you could try to make your wastegate stay open, but then your turbo wouldn't be experiencing any resistance forcing air into the motor, so the blades in it will spin too fast, possibly blowing a seal or overheating/seizing of the turbo. i may be wrong though, there may be a way to do it. if anyone knows, let it rip, i'd also be interested in that.

I am sure there would be a way.
You could use some sensors to measure the pressure in the manifold and some solenoids to activate a wastegate to keep pressure at an optimal point. Actually, now that I think about it Saab did that in there older cars (and probably the newer ones too). The unit was called the APC and it used a series of sensors (the primary of which is the knock sensor) to maximize boost depending on the octane of your fuel and other variables. It always put the maximum safe boost levels into the engine.

Small correction to what was said earlier. If you let your wastegate stay open continuously, your turbo would not spool up at all, instead of too much. The wastegate lies in the exhaust manifold, before where the exhaust gasses reach the turbo. It is there to let exhaust gas bypass the turbo, causing it to spool up less and create less boost.
I think you meant to say leave the blow off valve open continuously, which would yield something along the results that you said. |
