Revell Ferrari 612

Here's one of my Ferrari 612's. I've posted some crappy pictures of it in progess, but this is the first time I've taken pictures of it finished. I'm still learning how to best take digital photos of model cars. It requires some skill!

Its painted Cobra Colors Rubino Red Pearl. I have another 612 that is 90% complete and its painted CC Blu Mirabeau (these two colors were both introduced on the 612 in 2005). I used the Lion Roar photoetch set for the grill, rotors, and a couple other pieces. Its otherwise pretty useless. Crazy Modeler scripts were used and are excellent!

The only thing missing is the Cavallino badge on the front grill. It fell off and I haven't replaced it yet.

I really enjoyed building this kit, despite hood and chassis warpage, and lots of clean up on the parts. Besides the Blu Mirabeau one, I have a third unbuilt 612, which might get a two tone color treatment, or some modifications ala Peter Kalikow's (NY Metropolitian Transportation Board director) custom 612.

Re: Revell Ferrari 612

Fantastic finish and very nice pictures, too
A better view of the front grille would be interesting (what the PE-parts look like)
Could it be, you forgot to paint the third brake light?

Re: Revell Ferrari 612

Thanks guys! I'm playing with this camera today, so I'll have more pictures posted of other models. I've found the best area to take the pictures is on top of my car with the car cover over it!

Originally, I was going to paint the third brake light red, but the european versions have a gray lense. Mine is the CM sticker left untouched. I'll paint it to tone it down. American versions have a red brake light, along with clear centers for all four rear lights (euro's have out-board orange lenses, clear in-board).

The PE grill is just like any other. EXCEPT, some of Lion Roar kits are done in brass (or whatever gold-colored metal it is), which is HIGHLY ANNOYING. This particular set had the grill parts (and brakes) in that color, so I had to paint the grill black, then paint the bar edges silver. My other set is all done in silver metal, meaning I just have to paint the grill black and then scrape the edges, creating a much neater appearance than this one.

Re: Revell Ferrari 612

Stunning. Magnificent paintwork (damnit I miss CobraColors!!!). I wasn't really a fan of Rosso Rubino, but you've changed my mind on it. Looking forward to seeng the Mirabeau!! They'll make for a lovely pair.

Re: Revell Ferrari 612

Although there's plenty to knock on about Revell's kits, I do like the deep panel lines (don't have to worry about accidentally spraying too much paint on the body and you generally don't have to paint the panel lines either!).
