Montana with bad right wheel bearing should I change BOTH NOW

My 1999 Montana has a noisy right wheel bearing. Now getting ABS and TCS lights along with BRAKE lights on instrument panel. On a Corvette forum it was recommended to change BOTH wheel hubs and bearings if you changed one of them. One vendor (AAuto) wants $89 plus shipping for ONE and $149 for TWO bearings. Should I buy two of them and change them both. Montana has only about 65k miles on it. Thanks BIGHANK

Really no reason to change them both, you might get another 100k out of the other side. Not like a set of brakes, where the rule of thumb is "do unto one side as you would do the other"

Not sure what the TCS light is about though

My 2003 had the right side bearing replaced under warranty, and I got the traction control/ABS lights at the time of failure.

I'd only replace one side....Glen

So far I have just done the passenger side, the van ('99) has around 160,000 miles on it now and the driver's side is original. Who knows how long these last, I've heard like you, them going out at 65,000 and lucky ones like me with over 150,000 miles on it.

If you are in the mood and the bearing is not to costly, I would change it. I done one bearing on the front and 4 months later I had to do it for the other side, not to mention that I to get a loan of the tools twice.

Good Luck

Jeff

Wink Re: Montana with bad right wheel bearing should I change BOTH NOW

Thanks for the responses. Will check things out this weekend. Have since found a bearing for about $100 with Timkin bearings and lifetime guarantee not 90 days or 1 year, and not some no name bearings. If the right one is bad will start out replacing that one and see what happens. Can "borrow" the tools at autozone.

The sensor light didn't come on. Check your tires, I found that when the wheel bearing gave out it would be fine moving straight but made the humming noise when turning left or right depending on which one was gone.

Hope this helps

Jeff
