volume

hi i have noticed that it seems like i am losing volume in my speakers like when i start up the car it will be fine but after the car warms up it seems like i am losing volume like before i did not have anything set on the equalizer (head unit) i started to have to use stuff like loud but that is only like a bandaid type of fix because it seems like that some times is not enough.. where should i start looking for problems. and the amp for the speakers is an alpine pdx4 100. oh btw my operates at 14.2 volts hot and 14.4 cold.

Re: volume

I am not sure I understand the problem ..... Does it lose volume when you pull up to a stop light, but pick up volume as you start moving ?

Re: volume

yea i think i found my problem i just need to check tomorrow when the sun is out. my rear speakers stop working thus the lost in volume. i disconnect them from the amp and pluged in my front rca cables and it worked so the problem is not the amp. so either i have a short in my rca or i need a new head unit. i didn't have my mutimeter when i went on break today to get any ratings. i will be piss if it is my rca cause i got 2 Monster 402 XLN rca which run 90 bucks a peaice.

found the problem i need a new head unit because i could not get a voltage reading with my dmm with a reisitor inline from my terminal from my dmm with the rca's. looks like i have no excuss to not get that dvd player now.

whoa pump your brakes, think
CRU - cheapest replaceable unit, which in this case is your rca cables. you should swap em with a pair that you know works just to make sure...the way you explained how you tested your rca's doesn't sound right. make sure you're in the proper range because rca signals are very small to begin with, (usually in the miliVolts), and if you put a resistor inline with your rca outputs, that's going to make the signals even smaller...it's no wonder if you didn't get much on your meter

Re: volume

yea, actual RMS for average music will be in the AC millivolts (remember not to use DC volt).

Re: volume

it's tough tryin to figure out something you're not touching or even looking at,
but going on what you're saying now, I would say you might be right, your plugs might be jacked...
It's still ways around it, if it is operating at reduced functionality, (f?ckin military lingo), until you get a new HU...

Re: volume

i had a fellowing they where going because i did notice that sometimes the front really out played the back. but i just remebered seeing something that looked a little out of place when i took apart my dash to get to my radio and that on the rear outputs it has a pigtail and where the male and female rca meet it looked like it just barley touched a peaice of metal but there is no marks on it at all. could this have been the thing that sent it to navy jones locker?

Re: volume

if your rca's are touching some metal, then they will be grounded...
the symptoms are very low output and/or a humming sound thru that set of speakers...
