'00 Passport - A/C or engine issue?

Hi everyone!

I have a (new to me) 2000 Passport. I'm not really a car mechanic but will be learning a lot with this car. I just rec'd the "kit" yesterday to fix the fuel send problem. A friend of mine is coming over this weekend to help me drop the tank and install.

It's been pretty hot here the last few days so I'm using the A/C. When the vehicle is in park, and idling, every 30 - 45 seconds or so the RPMs spike (from 750 to 1250) then level back off. At the same time, "something" under the hood clicks on and off. It sounds like an electrical clicking of some sort.

Of course, when the A/C is switched off, this does not occur.

Any ideas?

It doesn't seem to do it when the vehicle is in motion. I have not experimented to see if it happens in neutral, but "parked."

Any help would be appreciated!

-D

Completely normal!

It's the a/c compressor kicking on/off; and it does happen when you're driving, just not felt/heard as easily.

Welcome & good luck!
