Blown fuse/fried amp?

Hey.. Couple of days ago I was fiddling around with my amp, I took the power cables out without the battery being disconnected. I went to put them back in and it sparked up and a puff of smoke went up..

The amp and 2 speakers connected to it wont work anymore. My LPG gauge and electric tray also won't work, i don't know if it's a related problem though.

I checked all the fuses out, didn't test them, only visually checked them.. They all seemed to be ok. When I get more time I will test them though.

Any feedback to what you may think the problem is? Have I killed my amp or is it just a fuse/cabling problem?

Re: Blown fuse/fried amp?

if everything happened the way you described, you probably fried your amp...

fuses are simple, they have a wire or piece of metal, (conductor), inside of 'em that passes current.
depending on how you see it, votage is what pushes/pulls current through the conductor, (ref. to the positive and negative flow theories).
when the current is flowing along Ok, the fuse is said to be closed. l------l
when too much curent tries to flow, the conductor will burn open and not allow any more current to pass, which is why the fuse is said to be open. l---\---l

there is a possibility that when you touched your power wires to your amplifiers chasis, the fuse may have blown open in time to protect your amp, it's what they do.
To be sure just replace your fuse with the same ampere rating. You can also test it with a DMM, (a blown fuse will read +12 volts installed, and infinity uninstalled)...

You wrote that you saw sparks and smoke, that usually means an internal component was destroyed...
