Re: help with keyless entry

Programming Keyless Entry Remote Transmitters

Note: The remote entry will not work when the key is on ACC or ON.

This is for a 4 dr. escort sedan not the ZX2. However, may work for the ZX2. Try it anyway.

Overview: The keyless entry remote transmitter emits a radio frequency called the transmitter identification code (TIC). The remote anti-theft personality module (RAP) recognizes the TIC transmitted and grounds the door lock relay coil.

A maximum of 4 transmitters can be programmed at the same time for each RAP module.

Note: Before programming make sure the anti-theft system is not armed or triggered (if equipped).
Make sure the batteries are good in the transmitter.

1. Turn the igniton switch from OFF to ON five times within ten seconds, ending in ON.

2. NOTE: If the RAP module successfully entered program mode, it will LOCK then UNLOCK all doors.
Press any button on the keyless entry remote transmitter.

3. NOTE: The door locks will LOCK then UNLOCK to acknowledge that the keyless entry remote transmitter has successfully been programmed.
To program additional keyless entry remote transmitters, repeat step 2.

4. NOTE: The door locks will LOCK then UNLOCK one last time to indicate the new transmitters have been programmed and program mode is now exited.
When finished programming all transmitters, turn the ignilton switch OFF

If they locks don't work check the 10 amp ROOM fuse, the 30 amp DOOR LOCK fuse and the 15 amp RADIO fuse. Radio fuse important. Transmitter frequency is picked up by the radio antenna.

Re: help with keyless entry

Just a heads up, Programming is the same for the 98-03 Escort "Coupe" and "Sedan" according to the Ford factory keyless programming procedures.

The procedure in the above post does not match procedure (A) which is required:

Quote:
Do not press brake pedal during REMOTE ENTRY programming procedure as it will immediately exit you from that mode. Electronically unlock the vehicle prior to attempting to enter Remote Entry Programming Mode. Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times with 10 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN. All doors will ock then unlock to confirm orogramming mde. Within 20 seconds press any button on the 1st remote tranmitter. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming. Within 20 seconds press any button on the 2nd transmitter. (Up to 4 transmitters total possible.) Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.

Onblsht you are right. I erroneously assumed it was the same as a 97. Thanks for the correction.
