2004 GTP gas mileage. I need an answer before I buy

Im looking at a 2004 grand prix gtp. I test drove it. On my way to work I hammered on it and lost about 1/4 of a tank. By hammered on it i mean. I got it up to 90 twice and 100 once but not for very long. I drove it conservatively on the way home 70 mph cruise control and lost about 1/16 or 2/16ths on the fuel gauge. Is this normal for a gtp. I know the super charger is always running but that much fuel seems unreal for something of only 260 horse power. Is the car acting normal or is there more likely somthing wrong causing it to use that much gas?

Well, first off, how far did you drive!? Obviousy, if you drove 75 miles this would be normal, but we can guage how bad it is.

Second, How much fuel was previously in the tank? This will make a huge difference. When I have a full, and I mean full, tank, my fuel guage barely moves. But as soon as I have less than 3/4 of a tank, down she goes! Weird, I know!

Third, How far did you drive 90-100mph? Anything above 75, and this car drinks gas like a fish. 60-70mph is optimal. Use the Driver Information Center's Instant Fuel function, that'll probably show scary numbers at 100 mph!

If you are doing a lot of WOT runs, kiss your gas goodbye. Supercharger + Heavy Foot = empty tank!!

Well i drove probably maybe 1-2 miles at 90, and 1 mile at 100. There was only 3/4 of a tank when I got it and that could be the problem because my sunfire did that also. I drove about 30 miles and the gauge went down 2/16s.
I thought about the gauge being off but figured oh its new it shouldnt do that lol.

Im gonna talk to the dealer today or tomorrow and ask him if i can take it for a few days instead of just one so I can fill the tank and see what mileage it gets with me driving it.

Also I cannot access gas mileage on the information center but i did only have the car for a few hours because I worked. Didnt get to read the manual.

That can be normal for the car, annoying, but normal. Also, did it go back up a little when you stopped? Mine does that all the time, usually like a 16th.

Yeah, I average about 20.6 mpg's due to the low speeds that I have to travel on base. The car gets pretty good mileage on the highway though!
