Re: vtec not hitting
pull the code yourself... jump the diagnostic termanal with a thin paper clip or wire and then turn your key to the on position... you CEL will flash.. 1 long flash = 10 and a short flash equals 1... for example if it goes 2 long flashes and 2 short.. it a code 22.

Re: vtec not hitting
ok 2 questions about this. 1 wher are the diag plugs on a b16a? and 2. jump them to what? Ive never used a diag tool so dunno much about this thing.

Re: vtec not hitting
pass side under the dash.. its a little green plug... it will have 2 wire to it... just connect the two by using a wire or thin paper clip.

Re: vtec not hitting
check the VTEC solenoid near the distributor...check it for signal. Also, do you have enough oil?

Re: vtec not hitting
talked to another honda guy. yea he told me to connect them using paper clip ill do tonight. is full on oil. i check it daily. when i bought car the ignitor wire was off so i hooked it up and vtec worked. every so often if i hit 6-7k revs it blows alot of smoke like it is pumping to much oil? i dunno how vtec works exactly, so i dunno if ecu still thinks vtec workin and pumping extra oil?

Re: vtec not hitting
blowing smoke is prolly your ecu richening your mixture cuz it thinks its in vtec (which increases airflow)... so it sounds like a physical enagement problem instead of an ecu problem... pull the codes and get back to us

Re: vtec not hitting
ok pulled codes got a 21-vtec solenoid. also pulled the TDC sensor and knock sensor. oh yea vss. but i know they speed sensor isnt hooked up. i maybe when reading the codes i got some mixed up but i know for sure that the vtec solenoid showed up it cycled a few times

Re: vtec not hitting
hook up you VSS.. fix the solenoid... and knock.. all three wont let vtec engage if there are problems. Im not sure the TDC sensor effects vtec.. but id fix that too, that will prolly effect your timing

Re: vtec not hitting
i was under the impression that you need the VSS to let vtec engage, otherwise the ecu thinks your not moving and wont engage vtec.

Re: vtec not hitting
well mine has never been hoked up. the sensor is broken. half is in the trans still to old fluid and the other half hangs. the speedo nor the trip work. never have. but i plan on replacing it. so ill replace that first and see if it fixes it.

Re: vtec not hitting
fix it all... i believe everything thats wrong is needed for vtec... a vtec engine is a picky bitch.. itll only engage if everything is perfect.
