Question 1985 735i - 156,000mi - Any good?

I've got the opportunity to purchase a 1985 BMW 735i for $4500 CDN (about $2500 US). The car looks in VERY nice shape. Leather is good. Electronics seem fine. No rust. Has 215,000Kms on it (156,000miles).

Just wondering, is there anything I should be looking for or anything I can expect with a car this old and with this many miles?

Any information is appreciated!!!!

Thanks!

HVAC controls and vacuum leaks are major problem. All can be fixed DIY but a PITA. Also common probls are instrument cluster and the transmission. The m30 engine is bulletproof, just keep changing the oil.

Cool

Just go for it!! I have one and it's one of the best BMW's I've ever seen. I know it's a bit too much to say that, but for me it was love at first sight. I had some ptoblems with the camshaft, and oil was leaking... but at the service I was told that it's not a car which goes 200 km/h on a highway for 1000 km. Maybe that's why I had problems with it. But it's a nice car and and the stability is good. I have 270.000 kms on it, and it still goes..... and goes....

Yeah, these cars are great. The work is part of the fun to see how the Germans engineer things. Look for some front-end work with this car. That stuff wears out...
