Who wears glasses?

I was just wondering how many Af'ers have perscription glasses? I recently was with a friend and he was reading things off of signs alot farther away than I could. I decided to go get an eye exam, and turns out I needed to get glasses. I dont have to wear them all the time, but they definitly do help. Anything more than an arm length away from me is much clearer and sharper with my glasses.

I dont have to wear them to drive, since its not on my license or anything, but I wont leave home without them again. They do make me look even more nerdy than I already did, and some ppl dont even recognize me for a second with them on.

Anyways, I got 1 pair, with magnetic clip-on shades, a scratch resistance coating and a glare resistance coating. I paid $319 (Cdn) for them. I get $120 from my dad's health insurance through his job, since I am still under 21, and considered "dependant" [LOL!!] Anyways, I think I may have got soaked for them, but since its my first pair I didnt really know what to expect, and the ppl working there basically picked them out for me, since I have no grasp of style at all. They were quite helpful.

I will post up some before and after pics in this thread if I get a chance lator. So, who's got glasses?

My dad is an optometrist, and I've worked at his place for 3 summers, so I know a fair deal about them

For a good frame, good lenses with coating, and a clip-on, $319 is about your average price. About the cheapest I've seen total (frame and lenses) was about $80 for the really bargain basement stuff, but I've also seen people get the top of the line frame, with clip on, invisible trifocals, every single coating and have a total in excess of $1000.

I'm in the same boat as you, Rich...I don't need my glasses, and don't wear them very often. However, if I'm in the back of a class, I'll usually have a tough time reading an overhead or something, so I'll throw them on. I see about 20/25 without them, but I see a 20/20 slaughtering 20/15 with them on, so it's all the much better.

Having a dad that's in the business gets me wholesale pricing, I think my glasses came to a total of about $220 Canadian or so.

This is my frame. It's made by Silhouette. It's all titanium, and has absolutely zero screws or hinges, just bendy metal (with memory, so it returns to it's default position after bending). The frame without the lenses weighs a mere 2 grams, 6 grams with my lenses in. Eyeglasses.com lists them for a shocking $289.95 USD ...we sell them for only $240 Canadian...

Yeah I do.
I only wear them for driving so I can see where I'm going!!!

I had my eyes lasered a fair few years ago now - but seeing as I use a computer at work 99% of the time - my eyesight has deteriorated back to just about how they were before I had the surgery.
A complete waste of money!

My cousin also had laser surgery and her eyesight has deteriorated also but not to the extent that mine has.

You can get some really cool frames etc nowdays so I dont think theres as much of a problem with getting hassled about wearing glasses as there was years ago.

Quite the opposite...I know guys that have bought frames with non-prescription lenses in them, because it's fashionable.

While I wear contacts most often. I've had glasses since I could read. Over three decades with them.

I used to wear glasses for cross-eyed-ness, but I had surgery on my eyeballs, and it got better. So, I got to stop wearing glassed at about age 12.

im wearing them now. But i only usually wear them at the computer cuz my eyes get sore. I also wear them for playing music (at the piano or reading violin music) but i hardly wear them at school. But i agree in elementary school glasses meant u were a dork. Now everyone gets them because they are cool....i was one.. i wanted them to look cool..but then after being at the computer alot the doc said i needed them... the frames are tommy hilfiger and the lenses have some special non scratch non break thing...ive broken 2 pair..dont ask :-D

Iv been wearing glass'es since I was 16.

I started wearing contacts about 4 years ago, and I now wear either or depending on where Im going, how tired I am, and how I want to look.

The Contacts are great for getting a reaction from ppl, as it makes my Green eyes look even greener.
The Glasses however have certianly never reduced my chances of success.

I've got the same glasses you do Heep. But I have been wearing glasses since I was nine so I've been wearing glasses for ten years now.

Tried contacts but too lazy for them. I prefer glasses, you can just reach for them and slip them on and you're good to go.
