A Huge Oil Leak

I just bought this 91 Civic STD HB (158K) a couple weeks ago knowing it had this oil leak. I asumed it was coming from the crank seal because the leak was in that area. Well the other day me and my dad replaced the crank seal toke it to get gas and it still leaks like a sive. I have no clue to what else it could be unless it has a cracked block but it seems to run very strong... What do you guys think? Maybe a new engine?

Which main seal did you replace? Front or rear?

We replaced the front one.

And is the oil coming from that side?

Here are some things I have seen on my buddies car.

- Oil filter was not being tightened enough.
- Oil cooler box was leaking around the seal.
- Oil pan gasket was leaking.
- Oil plug was leaking.


Have you tried pressure washing the motor, getting all the excess oil off. Then driving it for a few days, and trying to see where its coming from?

Are you 100% positive it is oil? Could it be tranny fluid, etc.

um the oil pan....the pan goes right near the crank seal too....
or the cam seal.....if theres oil coming out the hole at the bottom of the timing cover than its more than likely the cam or crank seal...
sometimes the crank seals dont seal right...

take the car and drive it up on blocks so that you can get underneath it and take a flashlight and check around the oil pan and all other areas to find it ...

If you replaces the crank seal that means you took the timing covers off...so then you mustave been able to see if the oil was inside the cover or not...that shouldave told you if it was the crank seal or not....

i just replaced my oil pan seal becasue it was leaking right at the end of the pan near the flywheel whcih i thought was the rear main seal but it ended up being the oil pan leaking into the tranny and then dripping out.

Yeah its 100% oil. Its no small leak, after it sit for about a half an hour there it a puddle of oil about the size my head on the ground.
