HP Tuners

On the HPtuners website it says that the HPtuner will work on the 1997 and up Cavalier. What about the 1996 Cavalier Z24? I thought nothing changed from one year to the next.

Re: HP Tuners

www.j-body.org

Click the tuning section in the left hand side. They know a little more about it over there than here. Only Derk has tuned with it on here and Noshun. Both of which have been quite scarce. We had our PCM at the shop shipped out to be tuned by somone else in texas. We supplied them with what we wanted and what we were running and got them done that way.

Re: HP Tuners

depends on which version of HPT you're getting. The only reason I would see would be if it didn't have OBD II but I think everything from 1996 and on cars were made standard with it... But it says "1996 The OBD-II specification is made mandatory for all cars sold in the United States." I dunno if that means cars sold in 1996, or 1996 model cars. cuz technically 1996 model cars would have started selling in 1995... but either way they should have all had it..

Why the **** would it be different? perhaps the source file is different then other years. Like 00+ Cavs you tune a different way then 99-, cuz mine maps off of ... oh man I haven't talked car lingo for awhile lol....I can't find it.. all I know is it's different from tuning a 2000 cav to tuning a 1999 one, because those are the two we did and they were different. 99 was harder.

This long post was basically for no reason because I don't know the answer lol

Re: HP Tuners

I emailed HPtuners and this is what they told me.

Samuel,

I am very sorry it has taken this long to get back with you. We do not
offer coverage for the 96 model year.

Thank you for your interest,

Jay Payson
HP Tuners

This really sucks because now I dont know what to do as far as tuning and getting the speed limiter a little higher.

No really dont want to go that route. I'm a firm believer in theres a right way and a wrong way and that isn't what I call the right way lol.
I know its a lot of money but how about a stand alone management system like the one from Mantapart.com

Re: HP Tuners

I talked to a local tuning shop today and they said that there system doesn't support the 1996 but they will hook up to it and is if the system will read the ecu or not. They also said that if not then I would most likely need to swap ecu and wiring harness. Sounds like a pain in the butt.
