IF IT HAS AIR BAGS, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY and wait 10 minutes before begining. You'll need to buy a steering wheel puller and lock plate depressor.

Remove the horn pad and single wire connector. Remove the clip on the end of the shaft, remove the nut. center the wheel puller over the wheel, and thread the puller bolts in. tighten the center puller bolt until the wheel pops off. Remove the steering wheel. Install the lock plate depressor and remove the "C" clip from the shaft. remove the lock plate depressor. If it has an air bag, the lock plate should be installed exactly the same way as it was removed, there will also be wires off it, but I can't remember which side. Remove the hazzard flasher button, remove the multi-function switch lever screw, and the 3 screws holding the switch in place. Remove the retaining screw from the lock cylinder, making sure you don't drop it down the steering colum (use a magnetic screwdreiver if you have one). Slide the old lock cylinder out, slide the new one in, and as always, instalation is pretty much the reverse of removal. When you put the steering wheel back on, you use the factory nut to press it on. I don't remember the torque spec on it, just don't hang off the ratchet and you should be ok.

Re: Ignition lock cylinder HELP 93 burban

Thanks a million!! My new lock cylinder didnt come with instructions and i couldnt find anything on the web about it, I was hoping i wouldnt have to remove the steering wheel and all that- I replaced a cylinder in either my old cougar or regal and all you had to do was stick a safety pin in a hole and it would slide out with the key in it. Ugh - wish this would of been that simple- guess I gotta go to autozone to borrow a puller- as i cant find mine. Thanks again for the help- Oh by the way... Is the ignition switch in there as well or is it under the dash by the steering column? Just wondering so i know if i should replace it to.... been having tranny problems and if the ignition switch was cheap and could be replaced at the same time i might of gave it a go even though my tranny is probablly just in need of rebuild

Re: Ignition lock cylinder HELP 93 burban

Is there no easier way of replacing it? If not- does the key have to be in a certain position when removing/installing cylinder?
