Not too bad. Basiclly a remove and replace part. Should not have any trouble. It is mounted like the old Mavericks and easily removed. Standard hours is 1.3 so it can't be too difficult. We have not had to replace one yet, but we have had lower control arms bent and had to remove to gain access.

Re: anyone changed out the rack and pinion?

I have done a bunch due to leakage and wrecks. like way2old said its pretty easy the hardest part is getting the bolt back in that holds the lines in. also remove the mounting stud or it won't come all the way off. also remember to disconnect the battery before starting the job

Re: anyone changed out the rack and pinion?

thanks fleettech, i'm going to change out both the pump and the high pressure hose while i'm at it, at 78k, it won't hurt, and there is junk in the fluid. not sure about the mounting stud you are refering to??

Re: anyone changed out the rack and pinion?

there are 2 studs/nuts that hold the rack to the sub-frame I think you can get the out with an 8mm socket. when changing the lines you need to change the teflon orings and they are a bitch I soak them in hot water and then slide them up a big punch (smooth no knicks in it) to stretch them a little to put on the line. you might pick up some extras cause if you haven't done them before (even if you have) chances are you will mess one up.
