2004 3500 Emergency Brake

Does anyone know how to tighten the emergency brake cable on a 04 3500? I don't know if makes a difference, but it's a 6.6L diesel 4WD six speed. Thanks.

On the parking brake shoe there is a grooved wheel that you turn. As you turn it, it expands/contracts the shoe. Expand it until it barely touches the inside of the rotor, and you are good to go.

You can also tighten up any slack in the cable. The adjustment is in the cable somewhere between the rear wheel and the front of the cab. I think it is around the location of the fuel filter IIRC. Pretty easy to find, just follow the cable. It is just a double threaded eye that you turn to remove any slack.

This is for a 1500, so it may differ for your 3500.

you should never need to adjust the actual cable on any truck, if theres a need to adjust it , it should be replaced because it is stretched or a fitting is coming loose. its a common problem for the e-brake shoes inside the rear disc brake to wear and need to be adjusted. adjust the e-brake shoe , it should be fine. i usually adjust it up all the way untill the wheel is locked then back it off 5-7 clicks\nubs

Hey WhiteTrash, do you have to remove the rotor/drum to do this? Or can it be done from the back side with th wheels on?

check for a rubber plug in the backing plate. On a lot of vehicles you can adjust the starwheel without removing the wheels.

i belive there is a rubber plug on the front of the rotor you can take out so you can turn the star wheel inside of it , you have to remove the wheel to access it
