okokok... Oil Pump Question
Oil pump is M77HV - which I believe is a Melling high volume pump. Issue is the pickup is tack welded to the pump, and I want to change the oil pan.... Do I cut the tack to put the new pick up in??? AND do I want to tack-weld the new pickup in, or what?

Re: okokok... Oil Pump Question
You've got the oil pump in your hands, right? Just replace it. It's out, not all that expensive, and its a real pain in the ass to change when the motor is in the car. That's what I would do. But, if you want to reuse it, you can ~carefully~ cut the tack weld out, but make sure the new pickup tube fits the pump. You also might have to do some minor surgery on the pump to clean up the area with the weld to make sure the new pickup tube fits snugly. I think the last one I did the tube was held in with a pinch bolt. And before I forget, yup, tack the new tube in if there isn't a hole for a pinch bolt.

Re: okokok... Oil Pump Question
Well if I'm not mistaken, it's fairly new (if not spankin). Don't see any reason to buy another if it's new. The pickup is older than shit and has seen better days, and definitely won't work on the pan I want to get. Eh. Maybe I'll get another one anyway.

Re: okokok... Oil Pump Question
okokok..(HAD to do it) Just replace the pump. The pump should run about $35 at any auto parts store. And, yes, if you can, get the new pickup set to the proper depth and orientation and have it tack welded in place.
