Fuel Pump Strainers
Hello,
Can anyone tell me if and how important fuel pump strainers are to the performance of a newly installed fuel pump? I had a couple of issues with a 99 Explorer (purchased through e-bay)where by the seller stated in his vehicle description that he replaced the fuel pump. Apparently he forgot to install a strainer. The vehicle began stalling shortly after I took possesion and got progressively worse each time I drove it. The mechanic who replaced the old "new" fuel pump after it failed said it did not have a fuel pump strainer. The second issue was a fuel leak where the hose was attached to the pump. The hose that was used DID NOT have locking ends on it. Instead it was clamped on. Am I crazy or did someone botch that first fuel pump replacement? Thanks, Joe |
