Replacing brake lights

Hi there -
Please don't be too hard on me, I'm not a car person and I really don't know much about them. However it seemed kind of silly to go and pay someone $100 to install a $5 part...except the owner's manual does not tell you how to replace the brake light bulbs and I'm not sure what to pull from where or what tools to be using. I know - this is super simple stuff - at least I'm trying to learn.

Both my lights are out (only the center light working) so I want to get this done as soon as I can.

Re: Replacing brake lights

Welcome Aboard!

What year is the car?

For 1995-later vehicles, there ae three plastic nuts accessible from inside the trunk. One of the nuts doubles as the anchor point for the optional cargo net. The other two can be accessed by folding back the trunk liner/carpet near the lamp. Removal of those three nuts allows the entire lamp housing assembly to be removed from the outside of the vehicle.

Once the lamp housing is loose, the lamp socket can be removed by depressing the plastic spring latch tab, then turning the socket counter-clockwise about 1/4 turn. Remove the lamp, apply a dab of bulb grease to the replacement lamp, and install it. It would be a good idea to test all the lamp functions before complete assembly.

P.S. -I took the liberty of removing your email addy from your post. Unless you are one of the rare few who actually LIKE junk and spam/phishing emails clogging your inbox, that's seldom a good idea.
