93 Taurus 3.8L rattle & rough running

I have a 93 Taurus Wagon with a 3.8L.
Just turned 100,000 miles & has had habitual oil changes until.....
My wife recently started driving the car & was baffled by both the check oil light & then again by the oil pressure light.

Basically, it ran out of oil & something wore out because of it.
It's running rough & rattling badly.

I can't put much $$ into this car.
Would replacing some of the top end components (rocker arms, pushrods, lifters) help?

I have no idea what would wear out first of if replacing it would help at all.

Re: 93 Taurus 3.8L rattle & rough running

My two cents would be that the main bearings would be the first to experience damage from running dry. They need oil pressure to remain properly oiled, so don't just assume that since they sit in the lowest part of the engine, a slight oil bath would be occuring and, even if it were, would be enough.
