305 & 350 Engine HP Ratings
I have a 91' Chevy 2500 with a 350. The motor is bad and was that way when I bought it. Does anybody know what kind of horsepower these engines came with from the factory. Also what was the horsepower rating on the 305?
Any information would help, thanks. |

Re: 305 & 350 Engine HP Ratings
The 350 was rated roughly 20 HP more than a 305, which doesn't sound like much until you look at torque - the 350 is about 60-80 lb. ft. higher, which IS substantial.

Re: 305 & 350 Engine HP Ratings
Thanks, I wasn't sure how much difference there was between the two. I have a line on 5.3 engine, trans and all for under a grand with under 100k miles. I may go that route, just depends how soon I feel like having it running.

Re: 305 & 350 Engine HP Ratings
i looked it up somewhere once for the 350 in an old truck my family used to have and it said that in 1990, the 350 had 210 horsepower. i have heard that the 305 is a boat anchor when compared to a 350 and it doesnt even get much better mileage or nothing. i believe that the only difference between the two motors is that the 305 has a smaller bore diameter. probably different cams and whatnot as well
