Differential

Really... I know this question has been answered before. Infact I remember reading it, but can't seem to remember where.

What are the visual differences in the 7.5" and the 8.5" differential casings?

7.5" almost a round-square diff cover, machine pads on either side of diff casing below the cover have a half-circle machined in them, on the 8.5", cover is almost a perfect oval/elliptical shape, pads below cover do not have any machining.

Re: Differential

Would it be possible to have the 8.2" Differential in a Parisenne?
I'll take a closer look tomorrow

No, the 8.2 is a late 60s, early 70s product.

Re: Differential

ok, I'm taking the last few parts out of the Parisenne tommorrow. I'll take a picture of the diff and post it here for another opinion if it's not obvious to me. but, it doesn't look like either of the 2 diffs on the site you linked me to

Here are a couple of pics of the 8.5" on my car. The machine pad I referred to above is clearly seen in pic 2. On a 7.5", these pads have a half-circle in them. Also, on the 7.5", the bottom of the cover is a bit flatter as the whole cover itself is more 'square' than the 8.5" you see in the pic. I'm sorry these didn't come out better, they were taken at 11:20PM and I had to lay down under the car to get them.

Also, if your car is 1984 or newer, the RPO/SEO option list will be on a sticker under the decklid (it will say "Service Parts Identification - DO NOT REMOVE"), as opposed to a printout attached (taped) to the top of the gas tank. Look on this if you have it for either of the following RPO codes -

G87 = Axle 8.5"
G89 = Axle 7.5"

Re: Differential

Yup, that's a 7.5". Look closely at the diff covers on mine and yours, compare them and you'll see that mine is more oval/rounded than yours, also compare the machine pads on both in the following pics (1 is yours and 2 is mine), look at the red arrows. The machine pads are outlined in white -
