Jetta 98 - stalling when wet
Hi everybody,
My jetta stalls when starting in wet weather. Acting begun seven days ago. First, it did not start at all - this was fixed by replacing the ignition coil. Next, it started stalling(bucking?) at low rpm ~1800 when shifting the gears. This appeared to be fixed by changing the ignition wires. Today (seven days later) after a humid night with some rain the car stalls like it did after changing the coil (but before changing the ignition wires). What would be the most prudent course of action? (1) assume that the ignition coil is defective? (2) change distributor cap? (3) use wire dryer? (4) sell the car? Any help is appreciated. Thanks beforehand. chuck |

so you've changed the ignition wires and coil.
Before proceeding...did you absolutley make SURE that the wires are SECURED. did they click? and did you buy OEM or OEM like parts? do the wires have a metal shield at the end? Secondly, replacing only certain parts of the ignition system is bad karma. You need to replace the cap, rotor and spark plugs. I am sure one of these are your problem. no need to sell the car |
