Wow, nice, how hard was it to get the Tach in? Don't wanna jack your thread or anything, but my friend has a mazda protege, and it doesn't come with a tach but he wants to install a tach, where can he buy it from? Is it hard to install? Does he need a tach reader or something?

Hey lookin good, how do you change the cluster bulbs...i took out my cluster, and on the back is those green things you turn and out comes the bulb, problem though, i cant get the bulb out of the green socket, how do you go abouts doing it? I wanted to do this for a long time but can't figure it out. Also, are they 194 bulbs? Thanks much.

Re: Yer Ma Boy Blue!!!

The tach is autometer ATM-1397

3 wires - signal from car, switched power and ground ( i used a tach adaptor)
2 wire for lighting ( positive and neg) Those are tapped into the wiring going to the dimmer switch.

I bought new gauge cluster sockets from my old job 1/2" ones. They are plug and play, i didn't feel like dicking around with the old ones which required to be soldered. No thanks when new sockets were 2 bucks each.

LEDS are #194 style 5 angle from superbrightleds.com and the HVAC are #74

I can't wait to get my other gauges installed and light them up with LEDS as well cause it looks soo much better than b4.

Re: Yer Ma Boy Blue!!!

www.superbrightleds.com is the website

4 - #194 bulbs are in the gauge cluster ( this only works for 95-99 cavs) 00+ ur fukked.

...rest of these are going into my autometer gauges.

2- #74 are in the HVAC ( original bulbs.. i broke both trying to yank em out. They are soo damn small and very little surface area to grip onto them. Then spent 10 mins trying to get all the glass out of them.

... i ordered an extra after breaking all the original bulbs. I under estimate my strength.

4 - Conduct- Tite! 1/2" Instrament Panel sockets ( P/N 85835) Get at Adavance Auto or Autozone

..plug the 194 leds into these and twist back into instrament cluster.

Re: Yer Ma Boy Blue!!!

YOu have to take the dash off, the sockets are then accessable. They are right ontop of the back of the HVAC. I did a little more than that, i added tin foil behind the clear plate inside mine to try to get more light out out the unit. It gives off better light then with just the leds inside. To do that you must remove the radio bezel. I don't have pics doing this either, nor do i feel like taking mine apart again, sorry.

Re: Yer Ma Boy Blue!!!

i have taken the dash and the radio bezel off before cuz i had to put some tape over my ABS light (woops....did i say that??) so i know how to do that and i have some regular green 194 bulbs laying around, so you think they would work good cuz the green WLED's cost like $4.50 a peice, and i can just go pick up some of those socket things at the auto store. i mean the stock bulbs are just regular ones right? so these should be the same just green.
