98 Windstar Brake Problem

Hi, the brakes on my 1998 3.8 windstar have developed a strange symptom recently. They perform normally except for right before the car comes to a complete stop. When stopping and the vehicle speed has slowed to about 10 mph there is a slight drop in the pedal accompanied by a loss in braking. Along with this there is a sound like there was a pressure release in the master cylinder.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

Re: 98 Windstar Brake Problem

I have the same vehicle and problem. I was under the impression it has something to do with the antilock brakes or speed sensor, but I have not been able to get farther than that. Any one else?

Re: 98 Windstar Brake Problem

I had the same sort of problem on my 04 Mazda 6. It first started doing it(Also making a soosh sound when pedal was pressed down) when the car was driving for about 20 minutes and got progessively worse, then started doing it all the time. I was told that the brake fluid breaks down over time. They flushed the fluid and replaced with new under warranty. That was 6 months ago and the brakes feel fine. My 03 Windstar with 77k miles, started doing the same thing about a month ago. And I change all the brake fluid today with new and so far so good. Hope any of this helps....
